DARLING?

Day 6 – Sunday 25th Feb

Morning

Steve: Darling would you like me to make breakfast this morning?

Blanche: Thanks Darling, but it’s OK, I’ll do our Sunday fry up

Steve:  Darling.  Is that because you’re better at it thank I am?

Blanche: No Darling.  It’s because I make less mess than you do!

Midday

Warm enough to sun bathe and because I could, I did.

Evening

As planned, we take a taxi into Benidorm around 7:30pm.  We’re looking forward to our excursion as one of our friends Tim Ames is performing at the Flamingo Oasis Hotel at 10pm (Bargain Brits, episode 3). As we approach the city centre Steve comments that he didn’t appreciate how big the area of Benidorm is.  Our Taxi Driver drops us off at “English Square”.  It’s cold and we’re wrapped up in tops, jumpers and coats. I’m even wearing a scarf and gloves. The Holiday Bar Crawl Brits are in T Shirts, Shorts and Sandals.  Go figure!  Outside each venue is a Barker trying to entice us in with drinks and show packages.  I don’t know who’s jaw is nearer the ground, Steve’s or mine.

In the first bar, we order our drinks at the outside bar where the music is blaring in competition with all the other bars and go inside in an effort to where the music is at its lowest level, although still loud, and warm up. We are followed in by a small Stag Party, Groom riding an inflatable horse.

Steve mentions that he’s hungry so we leave the bar and walk towards the Flamingo Hotel.  I was only half way through my red wine and asked for it to be put in a plastic cup on our way out.  Steve said ‘Darling, you cant walk through the streets drinking wine from a cup’.  I replied ‘Darling this is Benidorm’.  We agree we’ll stop at the first place that doesn’t have loud music and serves food.  We find one and once inside I gesture to my cup of wine and ask if it’s OK to bring it inside with me.  The waiter says ‘of course’ no doubt delighted to have two more punters in low season.  Steve looks surprised.  I said ‘Darling, this is Benidorm’.  Steve’s steak, chips, egg and beans arrive in no time, as does my calamari and salad.  I’m spoilt for choice people watching. Steve said ‘Darling, I said I would take you out in style’. Love that man!

Checking the time, we leave for the Flamingo, an all inclusive hotel.  At 9:45 it’s lively and full and we make out way to the entertainment theatre to enjoy Tim’s performance.  We weren’t disappointed.  A true consummate professional, he had the large theatre style seated audience enjoying his show, plenty of audience participation and his 45 minute slot extended to an hour flashed by. We watched him work the crowd make a few people feel very special and add great memories of an enjoyable evening’s entertainment to many more.

Blanche:  Darling, have you enjoyed Benidorm and can we go home now.

Steve:  Yes darling, I don’t think we need to visit again in a hurry.
