Day 15 (where have they gone) – Tuesday 6 March 2018
It’s been an interesting few days since our last blog. We’re here, in Spain. The weather is pleasant varying between 14 and 17 degrees. We probably have one of the best pitches at Playa Jayosa. We have no schedule and no alarm clock. And thankfully no more chord of the day.
We toured a little by car with Stella on Friday and Saturday and took a few photos at a grotto and local harbour.
The campsite bar and restaurant are very Spanish, which we love. We were in the bar Friday evening around 9pm watching Chef make pastry and tapas for Saturday. Nothing came out of a packet or tin. If only the local shops didn’t sell such fresh produce and we weren’t both good in the kitchen we might eat there more often. The only other people in the bar were local Spanish; OK one of the two guys is Swiss and lives here. Same thing. After a pleasant couple of hours before we toddled back to #44.
We had such a relaxing day on Sunday that neither of us fancied cooking, so Steve took me to the local Chinese restaurant over the road. We thought it was empty, possibly because it was a Sunday, then realised we arrived pretty early, about half an hour after it opened for evening business, as it wasn’t long before it was busy. We had the most delicious meal from a set menu with lots of flavours dancing on our tongues. Delish.
You’ve seen a picture of the beach view from our pitch, but it doesn’t do the beach justice. It’s quite long and makes an enjoyable walk. It must be quite popular in the Summer as there is quite a tall viewing platform, presumably for a life guard. The beach does have sand but at this time of the year the waves are strong and kick up loads of pebbles. We found out the hard way that trainers are better to walk in than sandals.
Our local big supermarkets are on the edge of Benidorm so yesterday we decided to visit the town, have a stroll, drink and then do our shop. The first thing that struck us was how many mobility scooters there really are, including tandem, for the elderly, disabled, obese and drunk. Andy’s bar was by far the most popular and loudest on our route so that’s where we decided to stop, have a drink and people watch. It was about 3:30pm and everyone (except us) was doing their best singalong with their drinkalong. We had a pint and glass of white wine @ 2.70€. Can’t think why that bar was so popular. As is our custom, we settled at vantage points to people watch. We weren’t disappointed. It was everything you see on TV and more.
Best thing about today? 3 hours sunbathing.
