Leaving Croatia – but we’ll be back

Last night we walked round to the little booth units we could see across from our beach as we hadn’t been there so far.  Originally I thought they were all little bars, but they turned out to be fast (and slow) food outlets and a few shops, which Steve already knew from one of his cycle rides. Another one of those occasions where I forgot to pay attention.

We then walked to the end of the parade, by the marina where there was a bar. How convenient for us to have a sundowner and watch the sun set. Perfect finish to a 2.5 km round trip

We both love food and cooking and our go to recipes have been Google, according to what we have in the fridge or what fresh produce we’ve bought, and also Spain on a Fork, having spent over five months in Spain.  Albert’s recipes have been brilliant with the best recipe choices for paella with guaranteed sucaratt.  If you don’t know what sucaratt is, you’ve been missing out.  Last night, following Albert’s tutorial video on YouTube, we tried out Albert’s One Pot Pasta – https://www.spainonafork.com/one-pan-spanish-garlic-pasta-easy-recipe/.   I’ve never cooked pasta this way before and will certainly be making up for lost time.  I added left over chicken and cream and the whole dish was succulent.  There was no need for any other utensils, like a colander, so the washing up after our meal was a doddle.  Perfect for caravan life.  No picture as it was too delicious to stop to take one so this pic is one of Alberts.

One Pot Pasta Dish – great recipe that can be adapted

We woke up Saturday to clear blue sky so continued to pack down.  The yacht club isn’t out, possibly not enough wind for their sales, but certainly enough for a final wash load. By the time I brought the washing in, they were out.

I toddled down to Reception to pay our bill on the way counting the camping units, which has become a habit through our stay, especially as we are at the end of the campsite and walk past everyone else wherever we go.  It’s really interesting to see who has arrived and from which country they have travelled from.  The only neighbours we’ve had throughout our stay have been Uwe and Siegrid from Hamburg, Germany.  We’ve been the only Brits since Richard, Chris and Harry the cat on a lead left and of course keep in touch with them and also Phil and Andrea.  All six of us share information on border crossings, PCR tests and places we’ve visited.  Sylvain and Lilly (the young French couple) sent us a message to say they were in Herceg Novi and were now in Kotor and from what they’ve seen, Montenegro is awesome and the landscapes are great. When I read it out to Steve, we looked at and said to each other how can anywhere be more beautiful than Croatia?  Well, I guess we’re going to find out soon.

We’ve been here six weeks, of which through the first four there was possible a maximum of 14 units (out of 300) and this week there must be nearer to 30 but probably closer to 20.  Looks as though we’re getting out in time before the other people’s kiddie invasion.  At Reception I spoke with Ane who has been looking after us throughout our stay here.  She’s been so helpful with advice of our tours, where we need to go for special purchases and especially ensuring 24/7 staff looked after our caravan when we were away for five days in Ston.

Our bill over our six weeks equated to £16 per night.  Isn’t that amazing?!  Ane is also going to Montenegro but in a week’s time and told me it has one of the three largest virgin rainforests in Europe.  It’s at Biogradska Gora, one of the UNESCO World Network of Bisphere Reserves, which is a national park that we’d already heard of, but didn’t know about the rainforest.  I do hope my photography improves!  She also told us somewhere serves the best Prosciutto ever.  I think I remembered that correctly.  Whatever we find, we’re going to eat it anyway. It looks like our fun is going to continue and we won’t go hungry.  Just before I toddled out of Reception, on behalf of the campsite, she gave Steve and me a leaving gift of Olive Oil and a Lavender Pouch

Steve and I sent a thank you note to the camp, in particular Ane, and received this back:

“Thank you so much for the kind words! It’s been lovely having you here as our guests. Everybody will miss you, as you have had contact and interaction with almost all of the Camping Stobreč Split team. We wish you a great trip to Montenegro, maybe we meet somewhere in Durmitor or on a beach on the Mediterranean. Once again thank you and wish you all the best! I’m sending you a virtual hug, Ane”

What a way to end a stay. More empty bottles filled with more memories.
